At Citywide Solutions, we understand the importance of a budget. Costly HVAC unit repairs can come at any time. There are things you can do on your own to help extend the life of your unit to help avoid those costly repairs.

One of the easiest ways is to change your filters on a regular basis.

Why is this important…

It can extend the life of your HVAC unit.

The most common reason a heating and air conditioning system breaks down is because of a dirty filter. As dirt accumulates, air can’t pass, or worse, the system overheats. This requires the motor to work harder to maintain the temperature and the harder it works the shorter its lifespan. This means costly repairs or having to replace the unit entirely.

Lower energy bills.

When your air filter is clogged it has to work harder to maintain the room’s temperature and this means more energy is being used. When it requires more energy to make your heating and air conditioning to work, it inevitably increases your energy bill.

According to the Department of Energy, the average household spends about $2,200 a year on its energy bill. When you consistently change your air filter, you can save from 5 to 15 percent on your utility costs.

Maintaining healthy air quality.

If anyone in your home suffers from allergies, asthma, COPD, or any number of respiratory issues, this is one of the most important things you can do to protect the health of your family.

Dirty air filters worsen the air quality and can exacerbate the symptoms. Having pets make it even more important because of the pet dander. Dander can accumulate in the system and spread allergens throughout your home.

Replacing your air filters regularly is an easy and inexpensive way to maintain the healthy air quality in your home.

Keep your heating and cooling system clean.

Dirty air filters can lead to other issues throughout the entire HVAC system. That can mean costly repairs, service, and even worse a new unit entirely that you hadn’t budgeted for or were planning on.

Changing your filter at a minimum of every 3 months (factory recommended), checking it monthly is also important, especially if you have pets.

Get a professional HVAC tune-up

It is also very important to get a professional HVAC tune-up and regular maintenance annually. We will:

  • Check electrical connections
  • Examine the unit for fire hazards
  • Make sure the unit is free of carbon monoxide
  • Examine and calibrate the thermostat
  • Make sure the system is in shape to work hard for the cold winters or the increasing heat of the upcoming summer

Citywide Solutions is there when you need us. We will always ensure that your unit remains safe and efficient.

Call today to schedule your tune-up service and we will include a year of free filter replacement (factory recommended every 3 months) and also show you how to do it so you can maintain the air quality of your home and extend the life of your unit.
